Susan Bordo and John Berger's writings on viewing images are very similar despite the fact that Bordo's takes on a more personal voice. When comparing the two pieces, I believe that Bordo and Berger put out the same message on how viewers are meant to look at pictures. Their essays both made me literally look at images in a different light.
In Berger's writing, we view the quality of the art based on this elite group, and in Bordo's writing, it is regarding how society treats a woman, and by treat I mean put her on dislplay for men to gawk at, as opposed to men who have not been tused as an object of desire or lust.
While Berger focuses mainly on our upbringing and what we learned as children to explain why we see the world as we do, Bordo focuses on society and the media. How we see the world around us differs from others based on our upbringing. What we are taught as children (should) define us as who we are today.
